Installation: No tools required. Just professional double tape which will be provided in the correct position. Apply a layer of adhesion promoter on the original spoiler and stick the ducktail over it. It really is that simple. No tools or drilling and not necessary to deactivate the spoiler. It will rise up and down as usual together with the original spoiler. Simple plug and play out of the box. The ducktail weighs approximately 1.3kg. 

Do note however, given the age of the 987 Cayman, some adjustments might be needed for a perfect fitment/alignment. All auto body parts will not fit 100% perfectly, even OEM parts. The slightest differences in body panel gaps and alignment will affect the final alignment. Do seek professional aftermarket installer help if you are not experienced in modifying or installing yourself. A good tip is to always do a test fit (without removing the double tape) and practice how you will stick it over. When ready, remove the tape and stick. 

Story behind the GF987Ducktail

I have always liked ducktails and think every Porsche should have a ducktail. Inspired by the original and iconic Carrera RS from the 70s, I could not find an existing design I like in the market. Some were too bulky, some too small, some got the angle wrong, some were just too much hassle to install. So I designed my version of the ducktail for my own Cayman S 987.1. It is designed to look good first and foremost. Plus it must be easy to install. No tools or drilling and not necessary to deactivate the spoiler. It will rise up and down as usual together wit the original spoiler when you activate it. 3D scanned and printed to ensure the fitment follows the curvature of the original spoiler perfectly. Its a simple plug and play out of the box.  

Since sharing my ducktail design with the Porsche Cayman community, many have expressed interest to purchase it as well. I have produced over 30pcs for Cayman owners in USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Bahrain, Australia, Hong Kong and Malaysia. But the 3D printing production process is very slow, taking up to 4 -6 weeks on average and also alot of material wastage. This is still very much a passion project as a hobby and something I do for like minded Cayman 987 owners who share the same love for the ducktail as me. It is not a business for me, I do have a 9-5 day job and its also why the wait times are long previously as I can only work on this during my free time and weekends. Good news is now you don't need to wait very long. I have spent the last 5 months on testing production in FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) material. As such it will be much faster to produce, cheaper and ready for a drive. 

Disclaimer: I am just a Porsche enthusiast. I am not an engineer, neither do I have any formal automotive or aerodynamic education or anything like that. I designed this with form first over function. So I promise absolutely zero performance advantage. I do not have access to wind tunnel testing or aerodynamics analytics. Please don’t ask me for any performance data because I won’t be able to provide any. I will also not be held liable or responsible for any performance gains/losses or any other matters related or non-related as a matter of fact.  Self testing on twisty roads and high speed runs on highways (above 200kmh), I don't feel any difference in performance better definitely looks alot better in everyday and dare I say it...completes the Cayman.
